At Present, There Are No Signs of a Major Earthquake Occurring in Japan

Recently, some claims described as “expert predictions” or “inside information” have appeared on the internet and social media, alleging that “a major earthquake or massive tsunami will occur in Japan in the near future.” As a result, some travelers have understandably felt concerned.

In response to these rumors, we would like to provide the following official statement:

① No related warnings or forecasts have been issued by Japanese government agencies

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), which is responsible for issuing information on earthquakes and tsunamis, has not issued any warnings or forecasts regarding “a major earthquake or tsunami occurring in the near future”. We urge everyone to remain rational and not be misled by information that lacks scientific basis.

② Japan’s earthquake and tsunami monitoring systems are among the most advanced in the world

As a country frequently affected by earthquakes, Japan has established a highly sophisticated disaster monitoring and prevention system, including:

  • A nationwide high-density seismic monitoring network

  • Advanced tsunami simulation and real-time monitoring systems

  • Emergency alert systems disseminated through multiple channels, including mobile phones, television, radio, and the internet

In the event of any earthquake or tsunami risk, official authorities will promptly release accurate and reliable information.

③ Recent seismic activity remains within normal ranges

According to the latest data released by the Japan Meteorological Agency, current seismic activity in Japan remains within normal ranges, and no unusually frequent or unusually strong earthquakes have been observed.

Claims circulating online such as “an increase in earthquakes equals a precursor to a major earthquake” lack scientific evidence and can easily cause misunderstanding and panic.

④ Claims such as “the government is concealing the truth” are false information intended to incite panic

Please be especially cautious of the following types of information:

  • Unverifiable “insider leaks” or “warnings from so-called prophets”

  • The use of extreme language such as “escape immediately” or “it will happen any moment” to provoke fear

  • Fabricated or manipulated content using images or videos from past disasters

Such rumors only create confusion and offer no benefit to actual safety.

⑤ Major tourist facilities and accommodations across Japan are fully equipped with disaster prevention measures

All accommodations, transportation services, and tourism-related operations that we manage strictly comply with Japan’s national disaster prevention standards and are equipped with comprehensive safety facilities, evacuation guidance, and emergency supplies.

Please feel confident and reassured when traveling to Japan.
